Understanding WiMAX



                WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) is a broadband wireless access technology (broadband wireless access or BWA abbreviated) which has a high-speed access to a broad range. WiMAX is an evolution from previous BWA technology with features that are more interesting.
                WiMAX is an international standard on Broadband Wireless Access refers to the standard IEEE 802.16. This standard is then developed by a joint forum between global companies linked (wireless products manufacturers, chip manufacturers, wireless operators), or called by the WiMAX forum. WiMAX is a wireless technology that has high speed in data transfer and has a wide range with a maximum of 50 km wide. Licensed frequencies on WiMAX technology developed at an early stage is at 2.5 GHz frequency (2.500 to 2.690 GHz and 2.700 to 2.900 GHz) and 3.5 GHz (3.400 to 3.600 GHz). As for the unlicensed frequencies, in the early stages developed in the 5.8 GHz spectrum, namely at 5.725 to 5.850 GHz frequency band. WiMAX technology was developed in July 2001 using the IEEE 802.16 standard that evolved, is simply the development of WiMAX standard can be described as follows:
                1. 802.16
This standard prescribes the use of the 10-66 GHz frequency band.
                2. 802.16a
Using 2-11 GHz frequency. This standard is finalized in January 2003.
                3. 802.16d
Is a standard based on 802.16 and 802.16a with some improvements. 802.16d is also known as 802.16-2004. Rekuensi used to 11 GHz. This standard has been difinlaisasi on June 24, 2004.
                4. 802.16e
These standards meet the capability for application portability and mobility. This standard has been finalized by the end of 2005.
WiMAX 802.16-2004 standard approved by the industry, so that the manufacture and sale of inexpensive devices that can be accelerated. Other WiMAX standard, 802.16e is currently being developed. Its function, more related to the cellular industry, which allows mobile phones to send and receive data in larger quantities.

                The main characteristics possessed WiMAX include:
1. In early versions of IEEE 802.16a works in the 10-66 GHz frequency, making the technology suitable for point to point.
2. Compatible with existing digital switches (ATM, etc.) with the optimal data rate per user between 300kbps-2Mbps with its range of 5-8 km to a maximum of throughtput.
3. This system supports video streaming technology, VoIP telephony, impressions still or moving, e-mail, Web browsing, e-commerce, and service berbasi location.



 WiMAX Service Forms:
 A. Data Access
WiMAX has a broad and fast access speeds DTA, provide flexibility and mobility to users who want to access data such as Internet and e-mail via laptop, cell phone, or PDA even in motion.

B. Broadband Technology
Broadband wireless is a technology that provides data penyakuran with wide bandwidth. Compared to the bleak GSM mobile communication which has a speed of 9600 bps, wireless broadband technology has a maximum speed of 128 mbps.

C. WiMAX Services In Cellular Technology
WiMAX has a wide bandwidth and high-speed access. Therefore, WiMAX can provide services such as 3G. advantage of WiMAX is on the side kecpatannya. But less well on its mobility compared to GSM.
